LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF PETER GOUGHNOUR Cambria County Courthouse #24
I, Peter Goughnour of Cambria County and State of Pennsylvania do make and publish this my last will & testament hereby revolking and making void all forever wills by me at any time heretofore made.
And first I direct that my body be decently intered burying ground according to the rights and ceremonies of the church to which I have always belonged and of which I have been a member. And as to such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to intrust me with I dispese of the same as follows First, I direct that all my debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible out of the first monies that shall come unto the hands possible out of the first monies that shall come unto the hands of my executor from any portion of my estate real or personal. Also I do direct that all my personal and real estate shall be and remain the absolute property of my beloved wife, Elizabeth Goughnour, if she shall be living at the time of my decease, expecting such part as is hereby bequeathed to my several sons and daughters and son's children to with.
I do bequeath unto the children of my decease son Joseph Goughnour, Lavina Goughnour, Lucinda Goughnour, and Sarah Goughnour to be divided equally between them all that piece or parcel of land situated in Conemaugh Township and County aforesaid the lines of which are described as follows: beginning at Roses corner near a Beach corner not far from the Mudlick Run running southeast to a Sugar corner thence southwest to Eatonia corner thence southwest to a Birch thence northeast to a Sugar Tree corner thence northeast to a Red oak corner thence northwest to a White Oak corner thence northwest to place of beginning containing fifty one acres more or less and situated on Hinskton Run for which they are to pay into the hands of the executor of my estate within five years after the death of both myself and wife, one hundred and sixty two dollars.
Unto my son, Jacob Goughnour. I bequeath all that piece or parcel of land situated in Conemaugh Township and joining land of Daniel Gouchenour and others the lines of which are described as follows: beginning at a White Oak corner running thence northeast to a post thence northwest to a post thence northeast to a White Oak corner thence another east to within ten rods of a Hickory corner thence west fifty-five rods thence south to Rose's corner thence southeast to a Pin Oak corner thence southeast to a White Oak the place of beginning containing forty-five acres more or less for which he is to pay into the hands of my executors within five years after the decease of both my self and wife at the rate of three dollars per acre.
Unto my daughter Mary Gouchenour, I bequeath all that piece or parcel of land situated in Conemaugh Township and adjoining lands of John Hedrick described as beginning ten rods south of a Hickory corner and running northeast to a post thence north to a post thence northeast to a post thence northeast to within ten rods of the second middle fence thence running north west paralle with the second middle fence till Eli Gouchenour line thence southwest to a Spruce corner thence south to the corner before mentioned as being fifty-five rods west of a Hickory corner thence east to the place of beginning containing forty-five acres more or less for which she is to pay four dollars per acre unto the hands of my executor within five years of the decease of both myself and wife.
Unto my son, John S. Gouchenour, I bequeath all that piece or parcel of land being in Conemaugh Township and adjoining lands of John Ribbt and others described as beginning ten rods below the second middle fence and running northeast along J. Hedricks line to an iron wov'd corner thence northwest to a Beach thence northwest to a stones corner thence southwest to a corner that is to be made between John S. Gouchenour and Mary Gouchenour or Eli Gouchenours line thence southeast to place of beginning containing forty-five acres more or lest for which he is to pay into the hands of the hand of the executors of my estate within five years after the decease of both myself and wife three dollars per acre.
Unto my son, Eli Gouchenour, I bequeath all that piece or parcel of land being in Conemaugh Township and adjoining land of Frederick Cobaugh and others described as beginning at a stone corner running northwest to a post thence northeast to a Walnut thence northwest to a Chesnut thence southwest to a post thence southeast to a Red Oak thence southeast to a Beach thence southwest to a Cucumber thence southwest to a Spruce thence northeast to stones the place of beginning containing one hundred acres more or less, seventy nine acres of which he is to pay one dollar and twenty one acres of which he is to pay two dollars per acre into the hands of the executors of my estate within five years after the decease of both myself and wife.
Unto my daughter, Catharine Gouchenour, I bequeath all that certain piece or parcel of land situate and being in Conemaugh Township and adjoining lands of Allen Rose and others and described as beginning at a White Oak corner and running across Hinskton Run southeast along Roses line to the next corner near Niper end of the chopping thence north to a corner between Jacob Gouchenour and Mary Goughnour thence nearly north to a Spruce corner thence northwest across Hinskton's Run to a division line between Ephraim Cogans lease and the old saw mill thence southeast along the division line from corner to corner to a White Oak the place of beginning containing forty-five acres more or less for which she is to pay into the hand of the executor of my estate within five years after the decease of both myself and wife three dollars per acre.
I bequeath unto my son, Abraham Gouchenour all that certain tract or piece of land situated on Solomons Run in Conemaugh Township and adjoining land of Jacob Florner and Jacob Gouchenour and others containing one hundred and eighty acres more or less for which he is to pay at the rate of two dollars per acre into the hands of the executors of my estate within five years after the decease of both myself and wife. I further bequeath unto my son, Abraham Goughenour in consideration of services rendered to his sister, Ann Catarin Gouchenour during her illness for thirteen years and upwards one stove and stove pipe, all my blacksmith tools, one wind mill, all my planes, angers, chissels, and saws, tow milch cows, one bed, and one large kettle, together with the use of the farm that I now live on for the term of two years from next spring or April.
To my daughter, Mary Gouchenour, I do further bequeath one weaving loom and thing pertaining to the same and one large kettle in consideration of services rendered to her sister, Ann Cathrain Gouchenour.
I do also bequeath unto my daughter, Ann Kathrain Gouchenour Two hundred dollars in consideration of money from her borrowed.
I bequeath unto Sarah Branaman in consideration of services rendered, Ann Kathrain Gouchenour during her illness one hundred dollars.
I bequeath unto my son, Daniel S. Gouchenour, five dollars.
And lastly I direct that the whole of my unapportioned estate be equally divided among my children namely, Ann Kathrain Gouchenour, Jacob S. Gouchenour, Eli Gouchenour.
And I hereby make and ordain my son, Abraham Gouchenour, executor of this my last will and testament. In witness of whereof I, Peter Gouchenour, the testar have to this will set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of August in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-two.
